Hình ảnh
The psychedelic work of Yu Maeda mix creatures, shifting views, and touches of the artist’s expertise in graphic design. Born in Kumamoto, Japan, and at the moment based mostly in Southern California, the artist combines influences from the entire fields he’s touched, together with animation. An opportunity for financial services organisations

Following the implementation of stricter European data protection regulations earlier this year, cybersecurity is at the top of the agenda of most businesses providing services, particularly in the context of protecting customer data. Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), if organisations suffer a data breach, they could now face fines of up to €20 million or four per cent of their annual global turnover, whichever is highest. There is also a heightened threat to all business due to the potential reputational damage data breaches may cause, as we have seen with the example of BA. As such, more businesses are looking to bolster their defences to remain compliant and avoid unnecessary fines and crippling effects of damages to their reputation. Thus, it should come as no surprise that regulators globally have already been focusing on the importance of strong cyber defences. For example, in addition to GDPR, in the UK, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has listed cyber...

Financial Services Firms Improve Their Cyber Resilience and Prevent More Than 80 Percent of Cyber Breaches, Accenture Study Finds

Yet risks associated with emerging technologies, including machine learning and artificial intelligence, are prevalent and challenge existing security defenses NEW YORK; Sept. 17, 2018 – Despite the volume of cyberattacks doubling in 2017, financial services firms are closing the gap on cyberattacks, having stopped four in five of all breach attempts last year, up from two-thirds in 2016, according to a new research study from Accenture (NYSE: ACN). However, the study also notes that firms will need to improve their security procedures to heed off increasingly sophisticated attacks powered by new technologies. The study, “ 2018 State of Cyber Resilience for Financial Services ,” is based on a survey of more than 800 enterprise security practitioners at financial services firms, as well as an investigation of focused cyberattacks having the potential to both penetrate network defenses and cause damage or extract high-value assets and processes from within organizations. The study n...

A Canadian Government Body Has Built an Ethereum Blockchain Explorer

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) announced Monday that it has built an ethereum blockchain explorer. The organization  wrote in a news release that its Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) is now hosting the explorer on the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) through services provided by Bitaccess, a blockchain startup. Using IPFS, it said, ensures web applications are both “unalterable and can be accessed far into the future,” regardless of whether the original host is online or not. The explorer allows users to search the ethereum blockchain for proactively published grants and contribution data, according to Bitaccess. The NRC continued: “These are early days, but NRC IRAP’s experiments with blockchain are expected to provide constructive insight into the potential for this technology and how it may be used for more open and transparent operations for public programs.” According to the post, NRC IRAP launched the Canadian government’s first l...

Cloud security | Data protection is essential

If recent data breaches have taught us anything, it’s that you can never be too cautious when it comes to adopting the right cybersecurity strategies for your business. For example, high profile Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and Verizon exposed the personal information of millions of customers by accidentally misconfiguring their Amazon S3 cloud repositories. Despite providers like AWS providing ample information about the best practices for cloud security, the volume of AWS-related data leaks continues to grow. The unfortunate truth is that data breaches are here to stay and could come from any point across a distributed organisation. Adding to the complexity is the growth of cloud technology and ensuring that the appropriate cloud security is in place without compromising user experience. With cloud IP traffic set to rise threefold in the next five years , it is vital that businesses have the provisioning in place to protect the...

How Hackers Stole Millions Worth of Crypto Via Victim’s Telecoms Operator

On Aug. 15, American investor Michael Terpin filed a $224 million lawsuit against AT&T. He believes that the telecoms giant had provided hackers with access to his phone number, which led to a major crypto heist. Michael Terpin is a Puerto Rico-based entrepreneur and CEO of TransformGroup. He is also a co-founder of an angel group for Bitcoin (BTC) investors named BitAngels and of a digital currency fund, the BitAngels DApps Fund. Terpin claims that he lost $24 million worth of cryptocurrencies as a result of two hacks that occured over the course of seven months: The 69-page complaint he filed with California law firm Greenberg Glusker mentions two seperate episodes, dated June 11, 2017 and Jan. 7, 2018. In both cases, as per the document, AT&T, of which Terpin was a longtime subscriber since the 1990s, failed to protect his digital identity. Now, Terpin is seeking $200 million in punitive damages and $24 million in compensation from the telecommunications corporation. ...

What Intel’s Foreshadow Flaw Means for the Future of Cryptocurrency

Yet another dire security flaw was unveiled Tuesday with potential ripple effects across the tech world, including for cryptocurrency projects seeking to leverage certain hardware devices. Following a pair of bugs unveiled earlier this year , the Foreshadow vulnerability impacts all Intel’s Software Guard Extensions (SGX) enclaves, a special, supposedly extra-secure region of chip often used for storing sensitive data. In short, while the enclave is supposed to be tamper-proof, a group of researchers found a way for an attacker to steal the information it stores. For many, Meltdown and Spectre were spooky enough. The bugs impacted every single Intel chip, the hardware powering most of the world’s computers. But, since it wasn’t so easy to execute, there weren’t many real-world attacks. Foreshadow might not sound as bad because it impacts a more specific type of Intel hardware: SGX. However, since many cryptocurrency projects plan to use this technology, Foreshadow could have eve...

Digital transformation | Safeguarding the customer experience

There is a link between customer experience and security, and digital transformation projects need multi-vendor strategies to succeed. At the start of the year, IDG predicted that some $1.3 trillion would be spent on digital transformation (DT) projects around the world. That’s everything from hardware and software to services. I don’t doubt that prediction will come true. Every day there’s a new story related to digital transformation, from partnerships to achieve omnichannel utopia to investments that will disrupt the status quo with new business models. Much of the investment has to do with efficiency, saving money and improving customer experience and satisfaction. Customer experience and security – people expect more But research shows that the link between customer-centric strategies and security is becoming stronger, in fact, two-thirds of consumers would have to be convinced to shop with a brand following a breach. It’s a step change in attitude – in the past, people hav...
